Bandra has always been a happening place. Although the landscape of the Queen of Suburbs has changed, it still leads Mumbai as a melting pot of activity and culture, attracting a cross section of people, all wanting to make it their home.
Scheduled from the 22nd - 30th November 2014, the activities in this action-packed festival will comprise music, theatre, film, dance, sport, food, heritage, art and poetry.
The Celebrate Bandra Festival not only emphasizes its enormous wealth of culture, but also brings people and diverse communities together. The proceeds of the festival are used to support worthy causes in Bandra. We have donated 2 school buses to Aseema – an NGO that works with underprivileged children for their municipal school.
At St. Catherine of Sienna – a home for destitute children, we have donated them a school bus and installed solar energy panels on their building terrace. Having commissioned a rainwater-harvesting project at Holy Family Hospital, donated a coach to Kripa Foundation, an industrial washing machine and an instrument sterilisation machine to Shanti Avedna Ashram, Bandra. We hope to continue to help and give back to our society. So come celebrate the spirit of Bandra with us!

Being a Bandra-based company, we take great pride in our beautiful little 'burb, and we couldn't be more proud to be curating the Food Festival for Celebrate Bandra!

Two days of absolute gluttony await you on the 22nd and 23rd of November from 5pm to 11pm.

Live food stations

We are a group of Origami addicts, informally grouped, based in India and have centers in two cities: Mumbai and Pune. We are the Origami Mitra - friends of and for Origami.

Founded in 1981, our myriad group has blossomed with people of all ages and professions. Collectively we teach each other techniques and models. Individually we teach ourselves patience. Our meetings are very colorful, what with all the origami paper around, and the wonderful people and books to add shades! Our library has a collection of over 200 books for reference.

We are very active in spreading a word about origami through workshops, ori-demos, and exhibitions. Twice a year we go in a cocoon (a weekend camp for your convenience) to refresh our origami skills.

It is December already and we are zooming ahead in time so fast, each year is just a blur! At the end of this year, let us revisit a few things, a few poems, the best ones we think we have written! Get your old poems, not necessarily very old, but something you have already shared with people, or at a PT.

Poetry Tuesdays is a gathering of writers, poets, musicians, artists from around the city, who bring in their original works to recite/show to a receptive audience.

Like every time, you can write on anything you wish, in any language! English, Marathi, Hindi, Gujrati, Telugu, Kashmiri, Urdu, French, Zulu, Tagalog, whichever! Keep your excuses in the office and just come! This is not a competition and there are no judges!

From PT 38 onwards, we are at Starbucks - Viviana Mall. It is a superb place with a great spirit!

"Waves, music and listening to the stars"

Jishnu Bhattacharya
TIFR

Stars have fascinated humans for aeons, and we have translated awe into curiosity and tried to study them using scientific methods. A remarkable recent discovery is that stars vibrate in many modes, a sort of 3D analogue of vibrations of strings on a guitar. Studying these oscillations allows us to image the interior of stars in exquisite detail. Let’s find out how to “listen” to these vibrations, and what they tell us about the Sun and other stars!

WordPress Meetup @ Starbucks Cafe Bandra Kurla Complex Bandra East Sunday, December 28

0
0

A casual WordPress Meetup in Mumbai.

Here is what we do as such meetups. We drink coffee, sometimes eat food and mainly discuss whats new with WordPress.

What do we discuss this time?

- There is always room to discuss planning and organizing WordCamp Mumbai 2015.
- How about also discussing something about upcoming WordPress 4.1 release
- Any ideas about free workshops we can plan in January?
- If someone wants to present on a new plugin, theme, framework - you get 5 mins. No projectors sorry, as this is a public cafe.
- Add things to discuss in comments.

What meetups are usually about - The discussions meander to plugins to theme, and hosting to freelancing or just about anything FOSS in general. Mainly its a place to informally meetup and catchup with local WordPress community in Mumbai. Good Faith Rules:

• WordPress Meetups are for the benefit of the WordPress community as a whole, not specific businesses or individuals. All actions taken as an event organizer are with the best interest of the community in mind.

• Membership in the local meetup group is open to all who wish to join, regardless of ability, skill, financial status or any other criteria.

• Meetups are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers. In cases where a modest attendance fee might be necessary, this fee should only cover the costs of the meetup and shouldn’t be used to pay speakers or organizers.

• Meetup groups allow events to be organized by any reliable/trusted member of the community.

Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment which is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavior.

Barcamp Mumbai 14 @ Vile Parle (West) 21st December, 2014

Barcamp is, fundamentally, a "free for all" event. Anyone can attend, anyone can talk, about anything. There aren't really any rules. However, to allow everyone to speak (everyone who wants to, that is) and to let everyone know what everyone else is going to be speaking about, we do "regulate" the event somewhat.

We’ve been asking him for presents for years now but this guy never shows up! This time though,he is coming to Mumbai , well he messed up on some time zone calculations so he’s gonna be here on 23rd December and of course we’re having a bar crawl on that day. Santa says that he’d like to party in Bandra, hang out with some stars maybe but we have to explain to him that he’ll just have to settle with a bar crawl for now since this was on short notice.
